Spring Skiing Getaway at The Glen House

3/10/2020

Spring skiing is one of the best times to head to the White Mountains, with longer days, no crowds and warmer temperatures. That’s why The Glen House, the award-winning 68-room hotel at the base of Mt. Washington, is welcoming skiers with a Spring Ski & Stay package. It offers accommodation for two guests, as well as two 2-day adult lift tickets, good at both Attitash Mountain Ski Area and its nearby sister resort, Wildcat Mountain Ski Area. It also comes with a $30 daily credit to The Notch Grille for breakfast. Guests should feel free to bring a pup along, since The Glen House, which was named one of the Top Hotels in New England by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2019, offers an equally warm welcome to four-legged friends in a dog-friendly guest room*.

Pond Skimming, Races & Sunny Slopes

Spring at Attitash means it’s time for the Red Parka Pub Challenge Cup on March 20. The 46th annual race is the longest running, pro-style dual giant slalom race in the United States and is considered the premier race event for the top amateur skiers in New England. The next day, March 21, brings Attitash After Dark, with a U2 tribute band playing in Ptarmigan’s Pub and evening fireworks over the slopes. The Grandstand Mogul Jam is on March 28 while the Attitash Pond Skim on April 4th is the resort’s rite of spring, with attempts to ski or ride across 80 feet of water at the mountain’s base.

At Wildcat, Cat Scratch Fever on April 11 is a freeride challenge for skiers and riders to show off their style while the Wildcat Pond Skim on April 18 is a resort-favorite with costumed competitors making a brave attempt to get across the pond.

Skinny Skis, a SnowCoach up Mt. Washington & Après Ski at The Glen House

The Spring Ski & Stay package includes complimentary access to 45 kilometers of classic and skate groomed Cross Country trails at the base of Mt. Washington as well as groomed and backcountry trails for snowshoers, as well as Snow Tubing and Fat Biking. These activities are based at the adjacent Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, which also offers equipment rentals are available for an additional charge.

The biggest thrill of all may just be riding the 12-passenger Mt. Washington SnowCoach four and half miles up the snow-covered Auto Road to tree line at approximately 4,200 feet on the 6,288 foot mountain, the highest peak in the Northeast. Guests can ride the SnowCoach back down or opt to cross country ski, telemark or snowshoe down the snow-covered Auto Road to the hotel. SnowCoach tours last approximately 1.5 hours and depart daily, weather permitting, through March.

Après ski central is at The Glen House bar, singled out as “The Most Beautiful Bar in New Hampshire” by Architectural Digest. It’s adjacent to the great room, with its toasty fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the snow covered Presidential Range. Or guests can hang out with a brew around the fire pit on the deck to catch the last rays of sunset before adjourning to The Notch Grille for a comfort food dinner of Steak Frites, Stuffed Acorn Squash or Lobster Mac and Cheese.
