November 23, 2020. Green’s Grant, NH. The snow is already falling in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where New Englanders have traditionally headed for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snow shoeing. At the heart of the area lies North Conway, the birthplace of skiing in North America, which was just named the #1 ski town in North America by USA TODAY’s 10Best.com and “one of the best ski towns in the U.S.” by The Points Guy.

The sage advice is to stay at The Glen House, the award-winning 68-room hotel at the base of Mt. Washington. With Covid-19 protocols in place, the hotel is welcoming skiers for another great winter in the White Mountains with their new “Winter Escape’” package. Guests enjoy 20% off the best available rate, which has been priced to include access to the Cross Country, Snowshoe and Fat Biking trails of Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, as well as the Snow Tubing hill.

Winter 2020-2021 Covid-19 Protocols

The Glen House is gearing up for a spectacular 2020-21 winter season in the White Mountains and also providing a safe environment for guests and team members. While offering the same warm hospitality, guests will notice changes and new protocols designed to keep everyone safe as they enjoy snowy days filled with adventure. Full details are available on the website at https://theglenhouse.com/welcome-back. Upon arrival at The Glen House, all guests will be required to either provide a valid New Hampshire State ID, or read and sign the letter found here. Guests may sign and return the letter prior to arrival by emailing the completed form to the guest services team at info@theglenhouse.com.

Alpine Skiing at Four Mountains

This is already shaping up to be a ski season like no other and most mountains will require advance reservations this year. Wildcat Mountain and its sister resort, Attitash Mountain Resort, are just a short drive from The Glen House. They are now part of Vail resorts and the Epic Pass, and both mountains will give reservation priority to pass holders this season. Cranmore Mountain Resort and Black Mountain are also near The Glen House for those looking for the family-friendly, small mountain experience.

Cross Country, Snowshoeing & More at the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center

Every guest of The Glen House who books direct gets access to complimentary Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Snow Tubing and Fat Biking at the adjacent Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. There’s 45 kilometers of classic and skate groomed trails at the base of Mt. Washington as well as groomed and backcountry trails for snowshoers. The Snow Tubing is the traditional walk up/slide down style and requires advance reservations while Fat Biking is available any day that snow conditions allow. Learn-to-ski lessons at The Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and equipment rentals are available at an additional charge.

Snow Coach at Mt. Washington

Ride a SnowCoach up Mt. Washington

The most dramatic winter experience in the White Mountains is a trip on the Mt. Washington SnowCoach, traveling four and half miles up the snow-covered Auto Road to tree line, which lies at approximately 4,200 feet on the 6,288 foot mountain, the highest peak in the Northeast. Guests can ride the SnowCoach back down or elect to cross country ski, telemark or snowshoe down the snow-covered Auto Road to the hotel. SnowCoach tours last approximately 1.5 hours and depart daily, weather permitting, December through March. Upon booking a guest room, The Glen House suggests that visitors book their SnowCoach Tour, as space is limited due to Covid Procedures. Reservations can be made online.

Après-Ski

After a day in the snow, it’s good to know that the fitness area and the indoor pool remain open at The Glen House, with limits on the number of users at a given time. Sunset is best appreciated from the fire pit on the deck of The Glen House. The hotel’s spectacular bar area, which was named “The Most Beautiful Bar in New Hampshire” by Architectural Digest, offers a fireplace and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the snow covered Presidential Range. Drinks can be ordered at the bar but must be consumed on the outside deck or in a guest room.

The Notch Grille is providing daily breakfast and dinner service. The evening menu offers a range of comfort food favorites, including Steak Frites, Country Fried Chicken, Lobster Mac and Cheese, Black Bean Burgers and Cauliflower Steak (please note that menus are seasonal and subject to change). There is outside dining (weather permitting) and take-out dining only. Reservations are required in advance for dinner service due to limited seating. No more than six people will be allowed per table.
